could you please show me how? From the docs:

fork() creates a new process by duplicating the calling process.

I don't wanna replicate the Perl script but spawn a PS window.

File::Tail seems overkill, and like the title suggests there might be problems on Win

get-content -wait is a built-in in all modern Win versions

In case it's of use, some sample code I wrote years ago to cleanly kill processes after a timeout period:

• Timing Windows commands - uses Win32::Process
• Re: Timing Windows commands - uses Win32::Job (for my application, I much preferred this version to the Win32::Process one above)
• Timing and timing out Unix commands - Unix version using fork, exec, kill, waitpid
BTW, I never use fork/exec on Windows, due to limitations and general weirdness of perlfork emulation under Windows.

Yes, i know you don’t want to spawn…

But consider something like this:

use strict;
use warnings;
use threads;
use MCE::Hobo;

my $hobo = MCE::Hobo->create( sub {
    …;
});

my $pid = $hobo->pid();

# $hobo->join();

You are already forking!

just show me how to do it with fork and you'll see how complicated it is.

IIRC is fork implemented with threads there, so there might be issues.
