I’m a former systems analyst and software development programmer, architect, engineering manager and business executive. I began programming in Perl 4 on Unix, sometime in the 1990’s. It was so handy it became for me the tool of choice whenever I had to get something done outside of production software development. And now that I’m retired, perl programming has become a hobby. I routinely use it to manage data I want to analyze in Excel. I have s‎crip‎ts that help me rename and organize the plethora of online statements that come from my bank, investment and utility accounts. And I’ve written software to download and access weather data published by NOAA on their a Global Historical Climatology Network data repository. I’m currently getting that finalized for release to CPAN. I’ve programmed in FORTRAN, APL, C, C++, C#, Python, 4GL’s and others. But nothing quite gives me the same joy as Perl.
