Perl 6 section?

by u65 (Chaplain)

I have used Perl for some time and have eagerly awaited the arrival of Perl 6. I see that it is now very usable, so I have begun writing small programs with it and am enjoying its new features.

Should there not be a new section devoted to Perl 6?

Discussed previously. See the list (provided via this succinctly phrased note) by jdporter) in the course of reminding those who suggest new sections to see prior discussions, and, in the same thread, his explanation of the underlying rationale -- that, with some exceptions, sections are for (1) Asking questions; (2) Musing/RFCing/thinking out loud; and (3) Monk-created code with some 'cool' or novel features or approach.

Updated to provide direct link per jdporter's messaged request. Edited the language here to accomodate and maintain clarity.

Sorry, I did search but it was inadequate. After a better search, I did see some support for the idea: almost five years have passed since the last discussion, maybe it's time to revisit the issue since Perl 6 may be launched by Christmas this year.

Perl 6 questions can be posted in Seekers of Perl Wisdom, just like questions about previous versions of Perl.

Well, considering how far it strayed ... there ought to be a www.perl6monks.org. There will be a lot of confusion anyway, but this is the minimum that needs to be done. Just in case Perl 6 is released before Christmas some six, maybe ten years after the Christmas it was supposed to be released before and it actually starts being used and asked about.

Well, I'm a bit more optimistic on the Perl 6 timeline, and I can see value in keeping both Perls in one place like this--kind of an ecumenical stance.

Echoing that same sentiment, I find that PM seems to work just fine, and to handle all sorts of topics including but not limited to P6, within a very simple, almost austere, number of categories.   If you simply say “Perl-6” somewhere in the topic, Super Search will find it.   Any Perl-related topic is fair game.   You don’t have to pick a particular box to put your topic in.   In effect, you “tag it,” just by what you put into the title or the message body.   And the whole thing seems (to me) to work remarkably well by its simplicity.

Would Perl 6 questions benefit best by prefixing Perl 6: in the title, in the message, or in the code?

Title at minimum, I think. That way it is obvious to those perusing Recent Threads, as well as being searchable.

        Dum Spiro Spero

Restricting oneself to only one of those three is a false economy.

I reckon we are the only monastery ever to have a dungeon stuffed with 16,000 zombies.
