Double-Plus Good

Every once in a while, I run across a node that is so great, so amazing, that it doesn't feel right that I can only praise it (by voting ++) as much as a good, but not outstanding node.

I propose adding the ability to double upvote posts. I also propose that this ability be restricted to 'perl-focused' areas of PM such as SOPW, CUFP, CQ&A, and Tutorials.

Most important is that double ++ should be restricted so that only OUTSTANDING posts get it. Maybe it should cost 1 or more XP, or use up all votes w/o granting XP. Or perhaps be restricted in to once a week or month.

On E2 they do this with C!s (also known as cools, chings, or ching!s). Level 4+ users get a certain number of C!s along with their votes. A C! confers 10 XP on the author of the chinged node (if I'm not mistaken), and is listed even if the reputation is not. They just recently added a list of who chinged each node to the node.

Update in reponse to thatguy: FYI, so far there is no antiC!. Thus C!s can only be used positively.

This sounds pretty good to me. Would a C! be called a Camel! here? Or should we give $_ to amazing nodes.

Assuming that the PM code still bears a strong resemblance to the E2 code, it should be relatively easy to pull off.

I think something like what premchai21 mentioned would be quite good. I remember wishing I could ++ a few nodes around here.

I agree with TGI that there should not be an XP gain by the giver of the C! and since I would assume that the truly awesome nodes are infrequent, why not a set number a week? Imagine a C!-votebot going around trying to --C! the Elders.. yikes.

of course, even without the C!'s you could always /msg the author and tell them what you thought of their node. Having someone thank me for my thoughts is worth more to me than the XP.

There is already a way to do multiple votes on a single node.

Since it was not intended, I won't detail the method here, and have only done it myself once to prove the point.

Update: I have just checked and the "hole" has been plugged so that particular method doesn't work any more.

Meanwhile, I am in 2 minds - one says "/msg or email the owner, that is better than XP", the other that it is nice to pick out occasional nodes that are very good.

I suspect in practice that the usual suspects will generate the good nodes. In practice I check their home nodes occasionally and browse their postings as a way of finding the perls (sic) of wisdom.
