in thread Mixed Unicode and ANSI string comparisons?

And your comment serves what purpose, beyond fluffing your pedant gene?

Unicode is the complete standard, not a character set or encoding.

No shit Sherlock! But, as the files originate from many sources, it's quite likely that some will be in utf-8; and others utf-16LE or utf-16BE, and still yet others may be in utf-32...

Together, collectively known as "Unicode". What price your pedantry now? Twat!

The inaccuracy plus your complaints about Unicode related issues and superior attitude that you’re too good for it, it should just work the way you want, etc, led me to speak up. I felt almost like I shouldn’t have but when an acknowledged Perl expert and senior monk uses incorrect/bad language on an issue, repeatedly, it can influence many others…

      The inaccuracy ...

Once again, I refute that there was any "inaccuracy", but I'll bite.

What term do you believe should be used to refer to a collection of data that is encoded in one of, or a mix of, the Unicode encodings other than "Unicode"?

Without requiring the use of the full italicised lump of text above.

Text; mixed-encoding text; a bunch of broken garbage that for some reason some hackers think is the responsibility of a standard that was ignored and not the devs and users who created garbage. I’m not being pedantic and I didn’t earn an epithet.
