Anyone using NixOS or GuixSD?

jimpudar has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hello fellow monks,

I've recently become aware of the functional style of package management offered by NixOS and GuixSD, and I'm just starting to play around with them in some VMs.

Anyone have any tips for dealing with different Perl modules, versions of Perl, etc. in these OSs?

On my regular Ubuntu and Arch machines I've been using Perlbrew, cpanminus, and carton with pretty good success, but I'm wondering if there is a different way more in line with the functional philosophy of Nix.

Best,

Jim

I'm pretty well sold on the concepts behind Nix.

I'll be experimenting over the next couple of months and I'll definitely post back here with some thoughts!

There was a Perl inspired LFS distro that was mentioned in early 2018; I'm not sure if it has gone anywhere. I've thought about repurposing the Nix tools for a better user experience on Windows, but haven't gotten around to it. Here is the link: A new Linux distribution with Perl as its heart
