XP Whoring, Stats Pages, and other Memorabilia

It's been a long time since I've mentioned The Stats Pages, so I thought I'd offer an update.

I have added a column to the Monk Stats indicating if the user has a public scratchpad or not, and is part of the sortable criteria. The Main Page also indicates a total of how many monks have public scratch pads.

Don't forget about the Big Monk Map, too! Put the tags in your homenode, and you too can be a famous red dot on an obscure map at an offsite linked page at a famous Perl Monastery. I've noticed quite a slowdown on map points being added, so I imagine that many of the newer members may not be aware of the stats pages. Masem also has a really cool map that shows the center of mass for Perl Monks, located here.

For you XP whores (and you know who you are): If you're desperate to know your XP, and only have a cellphone handy, you can call in to get your stats. See Stats Whoring - The VXML Way for details on how to do this (OK, so it's a blatant plug... Gotta use that TellMe account, or it'll go away for lack of use, though...)

I'd also like to remind people that PerlMonk.org accounts are still available, regardless of what my homenode may convey at this particular moment. It you need or want shell/http/mySQL/python/some_other_stuff access at no charge, please email me at jcwren@jcwren.com.

I was just looking at Masem's map, and it got me to thinking. If it's the center of "mass", it should take into consideration each monk's mass, no?

Assume for simplicity a constant gravitational field that allows mass = weight using appropriate units. So will we now be able to include a <!-- Weight: x kgs --> (or lbs for the metric-challenged) tag in homenodes that will be interpreted?

Hmm.... Given the approaching holiday season, the center of mass is likely to shift. I wonder which way it'll go? (In my own case, probably towards the center of the Earth.)

Good to have you posting again, jcwren. ;-)

Speaking of XP whores (I know who I am :), it would be nice if the XP column in the Monk Stats page was hyperlinked to the "View last 30 days of XP changes" graphic of the monk in the row in question.

The BigMonkMap looks much better with a red blotch in Lisbon :-)

If any monk ever finds that his Path has taken him to Lisbon and in so envisions to share a fresh drink with a native and perl loving (aspiring to) monk, drop me a /msg, for thou shalt be very well received :-)

BTW, I'm glad to not have entered the monastary in the post jrcwen era ;^)
I hope this is the first of a fresh new load of posts, but anyway thanks for all you have done before.

I was just looking at the Main Page and noticed the Stats "Highest XP" and "Lowest XP". Aren't these pretty moot? Its always going to be vroom/antivroom by design, right? Might I suggest "Fastest rising" "Fastest falling" instead?
