in reply to My username is...

It's perfect for me, and I've had it since I was ~15, so that's 16 years of hacker.

I've had this as my email address at every company I've worked for (except the big one of course). I'm hacker at Slashdot, hacker at Advogato, hacker at every ISP I've used, hacker at apprentice.perl.org, I'm hacker at Linux Journal, my BBS 14+ years ago was called "Hacker Heaven BBS" (and my Fidonet node address was 1:320/2600, much to the dismay of the control freaks who ran other BBS' in the area), and dozens of others.

My friends call me hacker, my coworkers called me hacker, and that's what I've been used to. I tend to find solutions to things using conventional and unconventional means. I also have an extensive security history, and I've played the role of both blackhat and whitehat in different capacities. I'm still green to perl, though I do have a development background (so I'm not yet a 'japh', just a 'h').

I realize that the name, thanks to the media, seems to take on a very different meaning these days, but I hold true to the spirit of the name when I first chose it.

And here I thought you'd chosen the nick because you were an especially sloppy saber fencer. <grin>
