http://www.cpan.org

It seems that CPAN has forgotten to renew its domain contract; the domain has now been snatched away by Matt Wright. http://www.cpan.org is now a portal to Matt Wrights script archive.

I called Jarkko, but it seems he's so upset about what happened, he started drinking and he's unable to speak at the phone.

Laugh - I almost went into arrest. Now to go play april fool with the web proxy

The internet has exploded and it's all you fault, you could try emailing the proxy administrator (for all the good that will do). Chances are he is on his way to 'visit' you right now.

    I can't believe it's not psellchecked

First I totally fell for that. I was really pissed. Then I laughed so hard I blew boogers all over my keyboard when I realized how badly I'd been had.

If Matt Wright is out for revenge and has expansion in mind, someone better check the expiry on the Monasterys domain names fast:>

While looking i discovered that if you click on the link titled "Matt's Free Perl CGI Scripts" it will take you to the old cpan index page http://www.cpan.org/index2.html. I did a quick check and the links from this page still look right. search.cpan.org is also still its normal self. update... nevermind... doh

Pretty much all the links on that page point to the actual frontpage.

This thread is cited by heise.de in their (german) list of April's Fools Day jokes.

Ouch. I hate to say this, but how could they forget to renew their contract??!! Usually they give ample warning, before the domain expires - I know, I have a couple.

Hmm, the question is what to do now. Unfortunately, most Perl programmers have that link mapped to a link - somewhere or another. I guess the best bet is besides posting it on this site, post it on every major Perl site (i.e. Perl.com, Perldoc.com, etc.) that the CPAN site has moved and it's no longer Cpan.org. Major suckage. :/

I can't believe Matt Wright or whoever does his site would do that. Maybe that just goes to show what a...(oh, nm... calling him names won't help anything).. obviously they sunk to new lows - to get hits.
Oh man!! that sucks! I totally forgot about April Fools!!!

      hehehe..

Although.. it's not April 1st here YET

Nicely done, but my homepage has Anti-April fools day technology (size 6 red font saying APRIL FOOLS DAY) built in, so you didn't get me ;-P

I hope nobody who lives close to Matt Wright got taken by this... for Matt Wright's sake ;-)

An Awesome April fools joke and a free shot at DDoS'ing Matt's Script Archive. It doesn't get any better!

Oh wait, nevermind. They just mirrored Matt's site. I thought they actually changed the DNS entry. No that would have been cool :)

And very unlikely to work, considering how virtual hosting works.
