Walk into any "shop" that's been around for a while, and you'll be startled by the number of languages and tools that are in use there ... all at the same time. Perl has been called "the Swiss Army Knife of pragmatic programming" and it earned that reputation. Once you get to know it, you'll be coming back to it time and time again because it does so many jobs so well.

Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
