In bar(), $idand $location, which fills your %location hash, are values and no references to anything.
I think that they are the values from coloum 'id' and 'location' from your database !!!

So if you want to get the location for i.e. id=4 you have to write  $location{4}
But all in all you can do it a bit more easier I think:

use DBI; my %location = map { $_->[0] => $_->[1] } @{$dbh->selectall_arrayref( +'select id, location from ndmw_location')};
There's also a $dbh->selectall_hashref() possibility, but I can't figure out, how it works ;-)
Maybe perlodoc DBI can help ?

Hope this helps ?

Use:  <p> text here (a paragraph) </p>
and:  <code> code here </code>
to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong>   <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible editor intervention).
  • Want more info? How to link or How to display code and escape characters are good places to start.
