I've notice a pretty odd thing about fellow blues fans. They tend to fall into three categories:

    1) Older blacks, usually from the south,
    2) Blue collar white guys, again often from the south or with southern ties,
    3) Educated northern caucasian intellectuals.

And I say this as someone who sorta falls into category 3) but comes from a background of 2) and has worked with a lot of people in category 1). It's also interesting to see how these different groups react to different acts at blues festivals. Buddy Guy (at least in his latest incarnation) does little for group #1, but #2 loves him and #3 seems to like him well enough.

What all this means, I have no idea, but it's something I've often noticed.

That's an interesting analisys. I suppose I fall into group three to some extent, although I not too sure about the intellectual tag. I came to the blues through 60s psychedelica, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, etc. As a guitar player, I suppose it was a natural progression.
