To put it simply, Perl revived my interest in programming, after my brain had been hammered beyond recognition by C and C++ code (all of which I've blissfully forgotten since). On the more pragmatic side, Perl routinely pays my rent, buys my food, and helps me spoil my fiancee with various luxuries. Sometimes I wonder what I can do to return the favor.
