Where Are My Perl Monks Posts Going?

by sierrathedog04 (Hermit)
on Jan 04, 2001 at 03:56 UTC ( [id://49647]=monkdiscuss: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

Sometimes when I post a question to "Seekers of Perl Wisdom" it is listed there. Other times it is listed in "Newest Nodes."

I do not mind this behavior but it makes it hard to find the solutions that the Monks post. How can I tell where my questions will be answered? (Now watch this question end up in Seekers of Perl Wisdom.)

Replies are listed 'Best First'.

Well there are a couple of weird user nodes that state that they have '-1' writeups and such. Check Agentm's home node for some of them. If it is that bothersome you should check the '/msg me when someone replies to one of my posts' button in your user settings. I've always had that on and found that it is _quite_ useful.

Why did this get downvoted? I thought this was pretty helpful and what the the questioner wanted. Damn people.

Anything you post appears immediately in Newest Nodes, and it stays there for a day (unless viewers choose another time period there). After that point it may only be accessible by searching, or following a link to it someone made.

A level 6 or higher monk (like myself) has the ability to make your post appear in the SOPW/Meditation/Code list if the question is worthy and correct and also can send it to The Monastery Gates if it is enlightening/a common problem/very well written/interesting etc...

You can always get to your own postings by going to your home node and clicking on the number of postings and then selecting from the resulting list.

The exception to this are posts to the Categorized Q&A section (but not replies to those posts), which actually end up being owned by the Q&A Editors so they don't show up in your list (though they do get added into the total). If a node of yours gets deleted, then all bets are off (whether or not you can get to it from you list of nodes or whether your count of nodes gets updated seems to vary at least a little bit).

Go to your home node and look at them from there, every node that you have ever posted is listed there. This is also handy if you want to look up reputations. See what people liked and what people didn't like. If you wrote something informative, and people hated it, you might not pursue writing more on it. If you wrote a gem, a follow up might be in order for hungry monks.

And if you ask a lot of questions, it's like a customized encyclopedia.
