Products that use or include perl?

osunderdog has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

While wandering through a stack trace of a third party application, I ran across the following calls:

00f29d18 Perl_pp_entersub (15e2498, f297a8, 208, 1632550, 0, 4c5e00) ++ 570 00f21abc Perl_runops_standard 00eca398 S_call_body 00eca0e0 Perl_call_sv

That made me wonder, has anyone compiled a list of applications that depend on perl?

Hazah! I'm Employed!

    Well, I have not, and I don't know of anybody who did compile a list. Maybe this thread is a starter? Here's another product:

    NoMachine - some binaries are perlcc compiled scripts based on perl 5.6.2 - arguably not a very good idea, since the pod for perlcc states "Use for production purposes is strongly discouraged."

    --shmem

    _($_=" "x(1<<5)."?\n".q·/)Oo.  G°\        /
                                  /\_¯/(q    /
    ----------------------------  \__(m.====·.(_("always off the crowd"))."·
    ");sub _{s./.($e="'Itrs `mnsgdq Gdbj O`qkdq")=~y/"-y/#-z/;$e.e && print}

    Off the top of my head, Webmin (web-based server control panel) and WebGUI (content management system)...I think Ultimate Bulletin Board was also written in perl. As well, Symantec's BackupExec uses perl in its linux components.

    Hi,

    There are a lot of programs that depend on perl, besides the ones written in Perl. That's remember me to the YAPC::2005::Braga, the motto was "Perl is everywhere!"

    I think Perl is also used by Oracle among others for doing the automated database maintenance tasks.
