  I too commend your desire to learn perl. You are a lot further along with it than I. One thing that has helped me immensely is to figure (or at least attempt to) out other's JAPHs and Obfus. You dont need to be the first, and if you are not, look at the spoiler only after you have exhausted all possibilities.
