Damian is fallible like every else. O'Reilly has released several very bad books. Randal has made mistakes in articles. Search results don't tell much, especially for more complex queries. Perlmonks reviews are hardly ever in-depth, and tend to be regurgitating the API docs.
Trust nothing. Analyze the code for yourself.

<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
