Perl vs. Copyrighting smileys

Not really news but I didn't know where else to put it. Today's UserFriendly.org combats the Russian businessman who has copyrighted the smileys by using Perl.

AFAIK he has registered `:-)` trademark, it's not the same as copyright and it's valid only in Russia. So you can still smile for free ;)	[reply]

According to Russia Today, "Russia’s patent authority, Rospatent, has ruled that the smiley graphic cannot be registered as a trademark."	[reply]
