Fellow monks,

I keep “Show count of all replies” checked in User Settings. With this setting on, Nodes To Consider is currently showing Swapping names of list while keeping the contents as it is. as having “5 replies”, in a link which references the parent node (as does the node’s title, immediately above). But this node actually has 3 replies, a fact which is correctly reported in Seekers of Perl Wisdom.

Likewise, Question 1 is shown with 10 replies, but actually has 7. Iterating though an array of objects is shown with 5 replies, but actually has 4. And so on.

I can’t see any pattern to this. Some reply counts are correct, others out by 1, others by more. However, if I un-check the “Show count of all replies” setting, the new (different) counts are shown correctly.

Nothing earth-shattering here, I know, but I thought I’d bring it to the attention of the Monastery in the hope that there’s a simple fix (or, perhaps, an explanation I’ve overlooked?)

Thanks,

Update: ++Anonymous Monk for the reply. I like the following exchange in the thread Seemingly random reply counts?:

moritz:
...although my counting skills aren’t usually very good, I can occasionally tell the difference between 6 and 9.

syphilis:
Q: What’s the difference between 6 and 9?
A: 180 degrees.

:-)
