    I did consider trying it out in Javascript, but I'm less familiar with how to get things done in that language. It could be a useful training exercise, if I had the luxury of time.

    The problem with "in a web page" is that you generally need a web server to collect data centrally via ajax or cgi, or Javascript on a local html file needs to be allowed to write local files. Add to that the browser variation from one user to the next, etc., etc.

      The other side being, are a lot of people going to access it and would it be much simpler to allow them to access from a web page. If everyone can use one computer its fine but otherwise you'll have to get Perl and all libs around somehow (might work fine from a cd). There's going to be a learning curve any way. If you give up on the drag and drop you could probably do something that wouldn't be too complex in JS, probably simpler in other guis, too.
