One of your points,
Learn proper indentation, raises a problem. What's proper? I'd suggest that you re-word that to just
Lean indentation! Why the change? Well as you progress as a programmer, you'll notice that there are certain things that seem to provoke much outcry. Formatting code (the hows and such...) is almost as sensative as what editor to use or even what language to use. When asked, I usually recommend what I call the Zen solution. To shorten the overly long lecture, I point out that a possibly trite but still useful summary of
Zen and the Art of Archery by Eugen Herrigel, is "To hit the target, let go of the arrow!" I often further condense that to just "Let go!" Point being that holding on to some things, gets in the way of other often more important things. In Yoda-ease, Proper, important is not, indentation is.
