Whois lookups

traveler has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I tried Net::Whois, but it seems to have some shortcomings. It gives me Registrant Name not found in returned information whenever I look up a recently (last 2-3 years) registered name. This doesn't sound like a "I cannot find that domin" error, but it dies anyway. I'm using the code from the CPAN docs. Do I just need to choose a different server (presumably by manually editing the module), or is there a better module.

Thanks, traveler

Thanks. It is much better. After commenting out the calls to alarm it works on Windows, too.

Gandi::WhoisExtract is a very useful module. Seems to work better than Net::Whois. I don't know why it isn't in CPAN.
