I'm trying to design a website for the recently created Brasil Perl Mongers group, and need to know if there is something like a "official color" for the Perl language. Could someone help me?

    When http://London.pm.org was faced with the decision as to what colour to make their website they ended up auctioning off the decision. Eventually they got over 400 Euro in exchange for a nice sedate (Ha!) Leon Brocard-approved orange colourscheme.

    All the O'Reilly books are blue...not an 'official color' that I am aware of, but you could start with that and see if it fits your design scheme.

      Nice shot, but older Perl books from O'Reilly was pink... I'm looking for something that really identifies Perl.

        I haven't been around this long enough to have seen the pink ones...all my mySQL books are that color.

        I just have a shelf full of blue and thought of that first.

        Yes, but pink was the colour of the previous version of Perl.

        Who knows what the next version will be coloured? Perhaps green?

        Shouldn't someone start a poll on that?

      Perl should have its own color, independent of O'Reilly, I've seen it discussed before that even the camel shouldnt necessarily be the "official mascot" of Perl, I mean, why should we have to get permission to use our own mascot...maybe its time for a clean start..this might actually be a good poll or discussion, find out what the perl community thinks is an appropriate mascot and official color

        The Perl Camel is part of the Hacker Culture, as stated at the Jargon Files. I think no one would even consider exchanging the Camel for another mascot...

      I always saw perl as a lighter blue, between sky blue and powder blue.

      Most of them are blue, but I can think of a couple that aren't: the O'Reilly CGI book is green, as was Clinton Wong's older book Web client programming with Perl. Maybe because green is the O'Reilly colour for their HTML/CSS/JavaScript/etc books and someone thought they "fitted" better in that category?

      I move for a vote for a color, then perhaps a logo contest. Funny thing about an online vote is we'll be using Perl to choose a color for Perl.

      For those from a Cog-Sci background the above quandry provides no difficulty. We would choose Grue every time. :-) Bleen is nasty however.

      Interesting.

      Adopt a community accepted mascot, typestyle, logo and color? .

      Bite a hand that feeds Perl? Or let sleeping camels lie?

      It is interesting to see the mention of a Perl "brand" in O'Reilly's write up on the page you mentioned. And it all makes for interesting thinking about trademarks, brands, etc. and the sticky wicket surrounding O'Reilly's Place in the Universe, etc. They certainly have done a fine job supporting Perl, Larry and others, no doubts there.

      PM is themable. I'm looking at a black background with silver text and underlined aqua links (yet visited links are some sort of yellow and they turn red if I hover over them).

      I don't think there is a "Perl colour". Or a "Perl Monks colour" for that matter.

    I hate to be obvious, but... White. Pearl white, to be precise. What better color for Perl than pearl?

    For some reason, Perl feels green to me. Dark green. Maybe it's because of the green Camel Code shirt I love to wear. But if there's anything close to an official color, it's probably the O'Reilly blue that is featured on most of their Perl books.

    hmm...I gather we're only talking about a background color? In that case, a rainbow would do nicely, muted some so you can read foreground text. Perl can do what all (almost) languages can do. If you want a pure/single color: pearl white or pearl black. mascot - cameleon, if not already taken.

    Shouldn't the mascot be an oyster? Where else do perls (pearls) come from? Duh!

    I saw some time ago a mod_perl coggish icon - maybe you might borrow that icon / colours?

    Of course my fav Perl colour is opalescent, but I dont know the HTML encoding for that 8-)

    I'm confused by all this talk of "pink" and "powder blue" - I always thought they were designer-perpetuated myths...surely there are only Six True Colours. Red,Green,Blue,Yellow,Magenta,Cyan (or as they're spelt these days, ff0000, 00ff00, 0000ff, ffff00,ff00ff,00ffff) :)
