Anti-Spam: Quarantine section?

I'm not sure about the idea, but I think it's worth sharing it.

IMHO we had lately a lot more SPAM postings than usual... and in the time window till it's automatically reaped after 5 reap votes those posts are searchable by google.

If we had a section like PerlPoems but called "Quarantine" which is only visible for logged in Monks (or even high ranked enough to consider) those posts could be immediately removed from visibility but still be reachable for consideration.

This might frustrate the spammers enough and help us cleaning the RAT view.

What ya think?

What we *really* need is a way to inform the search engines about spam links *and* have the search engine vendors automatically start "deoptimizing" spammy links. Then we could put up a "Spam" section and let them kill themselves.

However, until search engines give a good interface for marking spam, it's just a pipe dream.

When your only tool is a hammer, all problems look like your thumb.

It seems really tough to make a system like that that couldn't be abused, however.

As long as we're pipe-dreaming, some sort of AI that can accurately identify spam without human input would be even cooler! I would think that Google already has some rudimentary form of this...

yes I explicitly searched for one of our spammers in perlmonks.

maybe google is (now) just faster than consideration!

      Update

removed link, don't wanna reward the spammer...

      update

something seems to be broken here: from What is moderation?

For Anonymous Monks , and those registered users who have elected not to see unapproved posts, each section's main page will list only approved posts. It is possible for registered monks to change their user settings so as to see both approved and unapproved posts in each section. (Even then, they will be listed separately.) Registered monks should read Miscellaneous Settings for details on how to make unapproved content visible.

      /msg'ed janitors

        What part is broken?

The text you cite only says that Cool Uses for Perl never showed the post, not that the post itself was never available to anonymous users.

When not logged in, I have not had problems viewing unapproved nodes. I could be wrong, but I believe that the only nodes not viewable when not logged in are the reaped nodes.

Could the threads / posts remain visible to humans, but have unapproved posts (or just those less than a day old say) use an alternate URL path that can be filtered from the search engines with a robots.txt?

Humans need to see the posts fast regardless of false negatives, but search engines can wait a day or two for the consideration process to clean things up.
