On the PostgreSQL piece of the post. I have been running PgSQL for 260 days without a single glitch or restart in a 24/7 Web environment. I had to restart it last Thursday because the machine it was running on got a hardware upgrade which required some time off the power grid, which was (of course) unrelated to PgSQL. So in my personal experience the stability problems are a bit overstated.
