My suggestion would be to start with a book, such as, Learning Perl, Second Edition or Elements of Programming with Perl. Go through them and do the exercises. My ideas for programming projects have usually derived from personal/professional need or interest, desire to improve an existing program, etc..

Having looked at the website you quoted, you could program pretty much any of the services there into Perl.

Just head for www.perl.com, grab some tutorials and go for it.

Assuming you didn't rip off another website completely you seem to have some ability with layout. Why not try writing a simple game like mastermind for the web. There was one posted here a while ago, look it up and try and convert it...

    reflect on your needs.

    read the llama book,
    reflect upon the camel,
    seek the most useful.

    reflect on panther,
    glean wisdom from coyote,
    learn the ram's secrets.

    Ahmad -

A couple of comments about your site.

My IE 5.5 coughed up an error at Line 131 - Access denied. Take a peak at it.

For marketing purposes you might have a proof reading service go over the wording and grammer. Its not bad though.

The pop-up window, (probably from your ISP and/or your web hoster) is distracting as it comes up on many events on the page.

    As to projects-

Think about WAP /wireless pages being built from Perl that are dynamicallly updated. Then WAP enabled cell phones and PDAs could reach your data from anywhere in the world. You need to make sure your hoster supports the wireless mime types. Think also about Perl enabled pager services.

WAP / WML code is not hard, its the content you have to find. Find the customer who needs to publish for mobile users.

    Good luck!

Go out to www.sourceforge.net and look for groups needing help in Perl. Then by learning Perl by having a professional need you will also be helping some open source projects.

Once you master the basics from Learning Perl, you might want to play around with Perl/Tk. You can try to recode Tetris which was done as an example in Advanced Perl Programming. The exercise will re-enforced some concepts in making a GUI.
