You remember correctly, some SysV based systems won't let you change the process name. I can't remember if I encountered this on HP-UX or AIX but yeah. 1.13 How do I change the name of my program (as seen by `ps')?

Just tried assigning to $0 and $^X on Win2000 with Strawberry Perl. Task Manager shows perl.exe in Processes whatever I try. So, it also does not work on Windows.
