unfair CPAN review, is there anything I can do?

Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi,

yesterday I uploaded version 0.17 of Bio::Phylo to CPAN. Unfortunately, I made a goof and didn't "make manifest" before "make dist", so the created archive only contained the META.yml, not the *.pm files. I subsequently corrected this, but in the meantime the one and only review I've received on CPAN was a 1 star review.

I believe this is unfair - I have developed and maintained this distribution for five years and I know it to be used and to be useful from interactions with bug submitters and other users. I know, I know, a star is only a number, etc., but is there anything I can do so that the ratings are fairer?

Thanks,

Rutger

Solicit reviews from the people who find it useful by putting a note at the bottom of the POD. I suspect that's all you can do. The sad thing is, there are probably people that would pass over a module if it only had one star and a bad review.

I know people sometimes respond to the bad reviews too. That's certainly an option, but it won't fix the star.

You can hope that the reviewer sees the update and changes their rating.
A possibility message other reviewers would be nice, though.
It seems in this case that the reviewer in question is quite active, so they might check for updates soon.

update: what you shouldn't do, though, is rate your own module. you might review it without a rating, but giving yourself five stars is considered unpolite.

Ok, I suppose you're right. I've set the stars I gave myself to undef.

I feel bad for you - so I gave you a good review. I hope that helps!
The original reviewer of the negative review has amended his review (removed the stars) so to keep the universe in balance you might consider doing the same. Thanks!

      Wow, thanks :)
