Maybe you should have spent time finding out how to use XML::Twig well instead of trying to change it. If you forced XML::Twig to do a lot of unnecessary work that you skipped while using XML::LibXML, the of course you got a nice performance gain. It is possible that the task did fit XML::LibXML better than it did XML::Twig, but we can't tell as we do't know neither the task nor the xml.
