in reply to Improvement suggestion for Newest Nodes

this info is already available to friars+ (you alluded to this, but it wasn't clear to me if you were aware.) the approval nodelet lists 'approved' and 'frontpaged' status, as well as the monk responsible for the action. if it's not approved, there is a checkbox allowing you to approve it (level 6+.)

i think newbies tend not to browse this site through newest nodes, instead using Seekers of Perl Wisdom, The Monastery Gates, Cool Uses For Perl, etc. i'm not sure how much value this would add. of course, i'm no longer a newbie, so i do most of my browsing through newest nodes, except my once daily perusal of the above mentioned pages for unapproved &| inappropriate nodes.

True, but you have to go to each node in turn to see the status, it would be kinda nice to see the status for all of them at once...

When I was new to this site, I was still drawn to the Newest Notes section for reading. It's the best way to see all the interesting things without having to click through to every section. In fact, from the start my method was to go to Newest Nodes and then open the nodes I wanted to read in a new window. Just my experience as a newish monk. :) I imagine there are others like me. (I hope?)

I was fully aware of the facilities available in the approval nodelet. My intention was for NN to give a tabular display of the status of all newest nodes.

The second paragraph makes me inclined to suggest adding the same information to the user search results. My thoughts are that of an initiate, just created her ID, posted a question to SoPW, but where is it?

The intelligent novice may go straight to Newest Nodes, or failing this, try the link on her ID, see that she has 1 writeup, click on it and find out that the question is awaiting approval.

The layout of Newest Nodes and User Search results may possibly necessitate truncating or wrapping long node titles.
