I have a 15 billion row text file that is someting like this:
serial,name,yes_no
00020123837,,y
I have another file that has a list of serials to delete. When I find a serial to be deleted in the 15 billion row file, then I'll delete that serials row out of the 15 billion row text file. Without using a DB, what's the best way to search this 15 billion line file for specific serials and when found, delete that line? The total size of this file is approx 380 GB and I have 2GB of RAM. If this takes a week to finish it's not a probelm.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
