I blame the cargo-culting of catch phrases, and failure to investigate further, which is akin to developing a solution without thorough understanding of the tools being used, or without learning from the successes and failures of alternative approaches.

How often we take one of two roads: Dismiss a piece of advice for failing to follow it through to its logical completion, or blindly follow an incomplete piece of advice for failing to follow it through to its logical completion.

Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
