There's discussion on this news thread: Announcing Perl 7

The cake is a lie.

    I don't care anymore.

I've been a Perl person since I knew what a keyboard is.

All of this naming nonsense is complete bullshit.

Why can't we just code for crying out loud, and discuss those issues? What happened to those days?

    Fucking politics. Done with it.

I don't understand what you're getting upset about. There is no "naming politics" going on here. The Raku stuff is now completely forked off, and we on the Perl train can put all that stuff out of mind. Perl 7 is simply the next major version of Perl. Perl. Just what you want. Surely you know there must be a "next major version" at some point, right? This is it. Everything's cool. (And as mentioned elsewhere, you don't have to use it. You can stay at Perl 5 if you prefer.)

"Why can't we just code for crying out loud, and discuss those issues? What happened to those days?"

Nothing happened. Nobody is stopping you from doing this, or forcing you to get involved with/care about a version number.
