irc questions (ot?)

zakzebrowski has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

A quick couple of questions, some of which is off topic from perl and just a general request for information...
  • Anyone know of a stable irc server that supports more than 40 clients that runs on linux?
  • For windows?
  • What about the perl irc server that I saw on the (I believe) cool uses for perl?
  • Anyone aware of a "testing suite" for irc that will test the number of max clients & the number of max channels & general stability of the server?
The server will be for in house use only, and I really appreciate anyone's input on this...
*thanks*.
