I was formerly working in the sciences, but the US Balanced Budget amendment of the middle 1990s made that impossible. These days I do systems administration for a living. Ran into Perl deliberately about March 2005; I wanted a job with more programming demands and chose one that offered that opportunity.
I like what Perl does for me as a job candidate. I like the jobs I'm getting into that involve and use Perl.
I tend to rapidly learn a functional subset of a language and then program mostly in that. But Perl is expressive and has more features than a "better" korn shell or a "better" Pascal or a "better" Fortran. So, I'm here to learn more Perl.
I write answers to questions on PerlMonks to learn more Perl in the process. I don't want to write the tightest code in creation. I want to write the best examples I can. If Elmer Fudd after a 2 day drunk can roll out of bed and comprehend my code then I've succeeded.
