Daily Perl Tips....

I signed up for a 'Daily Perl Tips' mailinglist quite some time ago that was set up by Ask Bjoern Hansen. Since he seems to be taking a Perl Monk sabbatical, I thought I'd let every one know that the first email finally arrived.
Finally! We are starting to send out tips. We can't promise that they'll go out daily, but they'll go out. :-) What's the difference between "perl" and "Perl"? "One bit. Oh, you weren't talking ASCII? :-) Larry now uses "Perl" to signify the language proper and "perl" the implementation of it, i.e. the current interpreter. Hence Tom's quip that "Nothing but perl can parse Perl." You may or may not choose to follow this usage. For example, parallelism means "awk and perl" and "Python and Perl" look OK, while "awk and Perl" and "Python and perl" do not. But never write "PERL", because perl isn't really an acronym, apocryphal folklore and post-facto expansions notwithstanding." This is from the Perl FAQ distributed with perl. The next tip will be about how to use the perldoc system to get quick help and access the reference documentation. To unsubscribe: mail daily-tips-unsubscribe@perl.org To subscribe: mail daily-tips-subscribe@perl.org Or visit: http://learn.perl.org/tips/

I don't know if it was just me or what, but I felt a little short changed on the email. I subscribed, received 2 or 3 emails in the interim telling me they were getting started, there would be some great things, but felt this was a little toooo begginner for a tip, guess I was just expecting something like an entry-level cookbook recipe or something like that.

It was a little bland considering they had several months to think it up. However, I do like the idea.... I just hope the "tips" get more clever.

Yes, the perl tips will get better. There has been much discussion about these among the beginners-workers list and great tips are forthcoming.

As with most things, it just takes a little time to work out the details and implement them.

Hopefully, it'll move beyond outtakes from the FAQs. There's already the Daily Perl FAQ mailing list for that.
