If you'd read some documentation (second paragraph in the Chatterbox Information section), you'd have discovered that substituting an underscore for a space character will allow you to send a private message.
Your inability to discover this on your own leads me to two possible scenarios:
- The information for new users is not as easy to find as it should be.
- You're lazy and prone to overreaction.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and choose the former. Lots of things are apparently impossible, until you read the directions -- or ask someone more experienced for assistance.
For future information, the Perl Monks FAQ has quite a bit of user-contributed documentation. It's another good place to look for information.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
