Winsply++ for Windows 7 or some other tool like Winspy++

I am trying to automate the testing of a web based GUI application with Perl.My first question: Where can I find Winspy++ that is compatible to windows 7? my second question : is there any other tool like Winspy++ that can be used for this purpose?

Isn't Winspy++ a C++ application? If so why are you asking about it on a Perl forum? Win32::GuiTest has similar programs in Win32::GuiTest::Examples. You don't mention specifics of what you're trying to test, depending on the application in quesiton you may be better investigating either WWW::Mechanize::Firefox or WWW::Selenium (see Using WWW::Selenium To Test Or Automate An Ajax Website) for testing purposes.

I myself used the Window Spy tool that came with autohotkey to figure out what control names to give to my Win32::GuiTest scripts, just because that's what I'd gotten used to using.

As you hinted at, using the GuiTest example spy script to get the info straight from the source makes a lot more sense.

Don't know about WinSpy++ but I've found Win32-GuiTest pretty handy for automating Windows GUI apps.

Check out AutoIt Script. It's a freeware tool that can be used to automate GUI-based applications in Windows. One of the tools that comes with it is the AutoIt Window Info tool. Not sure how close this is to WinSpy, but it should help you find some useful information for the application that you want to automate. It works on my Windows 7 64-bit system.

(NOTE: I'm not advocating that you use AutoIt instead of Win32::GuiTest. Just pointing out that it comes a tool that might be what you're looking for.)
