Sad news (Almut)

by Anonymous Monk
on Sep 12, 2010 at 14:43 UTC ( [id://859855]=perlnews: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

I would like to inform you that almut passed away recently due to a tragic accident. She was caught by a sudden thunderstorm while climbing an exposed ridge in the Swiss Alps. According to an eyewitness, she was struck by lightning, then tumbled and slid down a steep scree field. She died on the way to the hospital on August 24.

My apologies if this is inappropriate or posted in the wrong section, but as she spent a lot of time in this forum, I thought you might want to know.

Her SO and best friend,
Riccarda

I'll also put a notice on her profile, for anyone who knew her but doesn't happen to see this post. (I have her credentials, as she left her master passphrase in a sealed envelope for cases like these. This should also be sufficient proof I am her SO and this is no bad joke.)

Replies are listed 'Best First'.

    Riccarda,

How thoughtful of you to notify this community during what is such a difficult time for you. Yes, this is an appropriate section, as is the home node.

almut's expertise will be missed by me and countless future Seeker's of Perl Wisdom.

These are indeed grievous (Perl)News for us all who remain.

Her posts were always of good abvice and profound understanding; we had some good crack here together in the Chatterbox as well as via private messages. I had plans to visit the Burgfräulein and you, riding my faithful iron horse Rosinante. The meeting has been postponed for after her alpine adventure.

Sadly this is now obsolete; postponed means never, sometimes.

    My sincerest condolences, Riccarda.

Her views were always of the highest quality. What struck me the most, however, was the polite consideration and senstivity with which almut invariably presented those views.

    My condolences to you, Riccarda.

    Riccarda,
Thank you for your thoughtfulness and your strength. I recently lost my mother and am inspired by your fortitude. You were fortunate enough to know all aspects of almut while we got but a glimpse. She was great and will be remembered well and missed.

Almut was always nice to me. I hope she is in coder's heaven. This is a shocking dose of reality on a Monday morning.

I just saw this today, so please forgive my lateness in offering my sincerest condolences on your loss.

I'm always at a bit of a loss as to what to say in situations like this, but, please, allow me to add a few words of admiration to what has already been shared. Almut's posts were always helpful and her insight to Perl and how to express that to a new coder was really wonderful. I will miss reading her posts and her brilliant solutions to our problems.

Thank you for sharing your loss with us in what must be very trying times for you. I hope you will see from the comments how well loved your SO was by so many and how she will be missed and how her memory will live on through her contributions here.

    You posted:
I would like to inform you that almut passed away recently due to a tragic accident.

I reaffirm the thanks that others expressed—for your generous thoughtfulness in posting to let all at perlmonks know.

I hope that you know that I'd be deeply appreciative were I in your lost partner's place and had shared a bond with a person of such sincerity as you must be, Riccarda. As to how you are personally faring in enduring this loss, words fail, of course. To whatever extent it helps a tiny bit please know that I recall Almut and feel fortunate that she became a part of my world through Perlmonks, even for just a while.

This is indeed sad news, I was shocked to be reading this, even almost a year later, Almut had been very supportive and used to light up the chatterbox, I will remember her and miss her greatly.

    Condolences and deep sorrow

I came to this post more or less by accident.

Almut gave a very valuable response to a posting of me ten years ago. I just looked for this particular response right now and ended here.

I need to express that I am deeply touched by these bad news.

Sorry for my delay to express my condolence. Almut was a great monk. I don't forget her help about perl.

I am trying to improve my English skills, if you see a mistake please feel free to reply or /msg me a correction

"I am trying to improve my English skills, if you see a mistake please feel free to reply or /msg me a correction"

There is little point in having this in your footer if you do not read your PM's or choose to ignore them.

I didn’t think it was fitting at the time, but let me now explain the reason for my previous post.

        xiaoyafeng Has in his footer

"I am trying to improve my English skills, if you see a mistake please feel free to reply or /msg me a correction"

There are in the post two errors, the misspelling of Almut and incorrect gender which I felt were very inappropriate in a message of condolence.

I sent two PM’s to xiaoyafeng neither of which were acknowledged, nor was the node corrected.

I then posted the node for moderation, hoping that the errors would be corrected, in hindsight I should have also put my reasons for editing on the NTC page but thought it was obvious to all who read the original post.
